About Me:

Much of my life includes working with children. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Art, a Master’s Degree in Education, and have taught art classes to adults and children for over 20 years. Literacy development inspires me to connect globally. I am a mother and grandmother who enjoys reading, biking, hiking, and all things creative.

My love of reading was ignited by a special teacher who I have never forgotten.

We came in from playing outside in the hot sun after lunch. As we found our seats, Mrs. Jarret took her place at the front of the classroom. We were quiet with excited anticipation as she opened the book to where she had left off the day before. Her voice was low and soft, and the words swept us up and away to a cool place with saltwater spray, a boy on a horse, and calm ocean vistas. I experienced the power of story to create a place for us to imagine, to think, and to feel.

I’m part of Joy of Reading because I know children everywhere deserve experiences like I had that day with Mrs. Jarret and the books she read to us. Joy of Reading allows me to honor that memory as we build opportunities for future generations.
